Facts on the Media Bill, according to the ministry

The following was published in the latest edition of "MCST e-news" the electronic newsletter of the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology.

The Public Relations Office [of Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology] notes with concern the numerous negative reports by the local media on the Media Practitioners Bill as presented in Parliament a fortnight ago. The suggestion that the Minister, or Government as a whole, is trying to control the press or otherwise, undermines the fundamental freedom the media practitioners enjoy in accordance with the Constitutional right of all Batswana to freely give and receive information is considered unfair.
