Deaf rights are deaf human rights too!

Language is an essential human right. The right to education for deaf people is universal and must extend to all children with disabilities in their mother tongue, as well as youth and adults. There are thousands of languages in the world.

It is important to emphasize that sign language is not only a language used by deaf people for interaction but should be approved in official interactions. Everyone has a right to health so deaf people have a right to seek medical help in sign language, as well as to receive other services in sign language.

Deaf people as well as children must not be forced to change their language while starting school or growing up. Parents of deaf children should also be given the right to express and talk with their children in the language they understand, their own language. People should take pride in their culture as it moulds them and instills the values of responsibility. It should apply to the immediate family, because they will give the closest support to everyone because culture is the domain of the nation,
Sign language gives profoundly deaf children access to an understanding of speech and communication much more effectively than the lack of it would. In my view, I deeply believe that, to deny them sign language in their mother tongue, we are being denied the means to acquire the best possible understanding of the spoken and written language. Deaf people have the sole ownership and control of their language in their national language. Without respecting linguistic rights of the deaf their human rights cannot be fulfilled. Linguistic rights are an essential part of human rights and are required for full access to education for deaf people. I wish to make it clear that deaf students and children have a right to acquire full mastery of their native language as their mother tongue. The realization of our linguistic rights is linked to the realization of our basic human rights to education, freedom of thought and expression. It is through this language that we can only be able to express our needs, desires, feelings and whatever must be expressed in life.
