Comments on Horwood's interview with Corry

Martin Horwood's interview with director of Survival International, Steven Corry, (Mmegi 30 November 2007) gives reason for concern, but mainly for reasons that may not have been intended.

The lead to the interview notes the active role Survival International has played during the eviction and subsequent court case raised by some Bushmen from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana. It further notes that Survival has been subject to criticism. In the interview, Corry shall "answer" to this criticism. When Corry has finished speaking, all points of criticism have been refuted. Whether this is intended or not, the interview functions as a mouthpiece for Survival International's position.

During the interview, Corry enthuses on what he sees as the virtues and victories of Survival International.  This is fair enough and given free column space he makes good use of it.
