Combis a menace

Sometimes you ask yourself why the public transport combi/taxi drivers drive the way they do disregarding the safety of other road users.

A month ago, the traffic police in Gaborone issued a warning to combi drivers to desist from blowing their hooters indiscriminately and unnecessarily. These guys have learnt the art of hooting at every turn or stop - it is irritating to other road users. They even go to the extend of blowing their horns to other motorists at the traffic lights before the traffic lights allow traffic to flow.

They break the traffic rules at will - by overtaking dangerously and driving on the wrong side, especially if the road is wide enough to allow them to carry out their mischief. During peak hours when they realise that they will be delayed by heavy traffic they go round and use routes that they are not licensed to use - they cause havoc. Many, if not all are too disrespectful to other road users.
