BNYC on African Child Day

The Botswana National Youth Council (BNSC) joins Africa and indeed Batswana in commemorating this year's Day of the African Child commonly referred to as June 16.

This year's theme; 'Africa Fit for Children: Accelerated Action Towards their Survival' could not have been more appropriate. This is in line with the resolutions of the Botswana Child Labour Conference organized by BNYC on 3rd, 4th and 7th July 2007. In view of some of the conference's resolutions, BNYC believes that key to accelerating action towards children and youth's survival is;

.The need for government to ratify the African Youth Charter,
.The need for government to introduce free and compulsory education as recommended by the Revised National Policy on education and Vision 2016, and
. The need for government and civil society organisations to develop programmes to combat the increasing chronic problem of using children in exploitative child labour e.g. as child farm labourers, domestic workers, sex workers, and children used by adults to commit crime etc
