BMC experiences mechanical problems

The Botswana Meat Commission (BMC)informs farmers that the abattoir is having mechanical problems within its plants, especially in Francistown. A statement from the BMC says repairs will take some time to effect, as some machinery has to be fabricated and/or ordered from Australia.

The statement further says, until these problems are resolved, the Francistown abattoir will only be able to kill 250 cattle per day, instead of the normal 350. Farmers are urged to make sure that they have a quota, which is current, before loading cattle for the abattoir. Cattle coming in without a quota or with a quota more than 2 days old will not be accepted. The BMC further apologises to producers for the inconveniences.
