BHC - a national disgrace

I wish to concur with Keneetse B. Setlhare on his observation of the Botswana Housing Corporation (Mmegi of 28 June 2007 at page 8). I must say, with the greatest of deference, that this organisation is a national disgrace.

In order to understand BHC, you need to place its origin under the microscope. BHC was created under an Act of Parliament to provide housing at better terms and conditions for Batswana. BHC has now evolved into a rapacious racketeering and profiteering organisation. It is no longer serving the interests of Batswana in general but the interest of a rich clique. It has totally deviated from its mandate under the law to the extent that it has now invested in malls (Galo Mall), and is building houses for sale to the rich.

The time has now come for Batswana to take stock of some of these statutory organisations. These organisations were created in our own names and for our own interests. They were created out of public funds. We need to ask questions and to find out whether are they serving our interests or not? If not, then we are better of without them. We cannot have our taxes wasted on a clique when we would have better ways to spend our hard earned money.
