BDP responds to BCP

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) would like to respond to some misleading and scandalous statements attributed to Gaborone Central's MP and Botswana Congress Party's Publicity Secretary, Honourable Dumelang Saleshando and one Annah Motlhagodi who is trying her luck in the Gaborone West North. (Mmegi January 27, 2009).

The BDP is not shocked by the aspersions cast on His Excellency the President Seretse Khama Ian Khama and the BDP by Honourable Saleshando as well as the use of unrefined language as this has become his trade smark. However, we would like to caution Honourable Saleshando that Batswana are politically mature and they want issue based politics not petty talk, which seems to be Saleshando's strength.

Saleshando is reported to have told the people who took their time to listen to him that President Khama has always been pampered as a politician. It is true that President Khama was appointed President when he was not a Member of Parliament. The constitution of Botswana allows a person who is not an MP to be appointed as VP as long as he can become an MP within four months. This is not an exclusive reserve for the BDP or Khama. When the BCP takes power (God forbid) they can do the same.
