AWEPA recommendations on promoting parliamentary democracy

The participants at Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA) 25th anniversary conference, meeting in Cape Town on October 2-3 2009, representing 38 regional and national parliaments in Africa and Europe, recognise with appreciation the achievements of AWEPA and request the Association to continue and where possible expand its partnership and cooperation in the interest of strengthening African parliaments and improving African-European relations.

AWEPA was acknowledged as a key developmental link between Africa and Europe, supporting the consolidation of parliamentary democracy and strengthening the voice of the voiceless in Africa.

The importance of AWEPA's cooperation with IPU and with other international parliamentary organisations and networks was emphasised.
