A call for a Godly response - Xenophobic attacks on Zimbabweans in South Africa

The Evangelical Fellowship of Botswana (EFB) wishes to condemn the recent attacks on Zimbabweans in South Africa in the strongest possible terms.

The xenophobic attacks do not represent the Botho culture of Africa that encourages good neighbourliness and promotion of dignity and respect of all people. The EFB is disappointed by the attacks and would like to urge our South African neighbours to desist from such actions. We acknowledge that within South Africa itself many are also condemning these attacks and that some of the leaders are taking appropriate steps to address the situation. Whilst condemning these recent embarrassing developments, we also acknowledge that Batswana have not been most exemplary either and wish to encourage all to be sympathetic to our neighbours through their struggles. We must pull together as Africans and take the 'high road' in resolving our struggles. The EFB encourages Batswana to continue to be a beacon of hope and assist the best they can.

We need to be extra vigilant to ensure that our language and communication does not encourage hateful sentiments that could lead to violence. We need to continue our world renowned fame of a peaceful and accommodating nation.
