'We are not Bangwato, we are Bakalanga'

Allow me space to respond to an article that was carried in your paper of Friday 13 May 2011 under the heading 'Bangwato to induct Mephato on Khama Day".

This is a good thing. Congratulations to Bangwato for this initiative. I think they learnt a lot from Bakgatla. I personally think mephato are good for the tribe because it becomes easy to manage the community. Your newspaper indicated that, "The members of the regiments will be drawn from the greater Ga Mmangwato area which includes, Serowe/ Palapye, Mahalapye, Tswapong, Bobirwa, Bokalaka and Boteti" . In your attempt to do this please leave Bakalanga out of this.

We (Bakalanga) are not Bangwato and we do not want to be part of mephato ya bone. We might be living in the Gammangwato territory  (Bamangwato Tribal Territory)  as stipulated by the false Botswana constitution. I say false because it is well documented that the whole country was never fully consulted when this constitution was adopted from the British colonisers. It makes sense why all were never consulted.
