UB SRC Supports public service strike

The UBSRC seeks to make its position clear regarding the planned public service strike by the public service employees led by BOFEPUSU.

We as the UBSRC want to make it crystal clear that we support the workers' demands and are against the reckless disregard for employees' interests by the BDP government and therefore, are in support of the planned industrial action.

The government spends more money buying weapons and intelligence gadgets than developing infrastructure and enhancing social amenities.  The military has become a robust arm of the policy, either as a tool of oppression or a sword to cut the throats of the few fading dissenting voices.  However hate us or kill us, UBSRC uncompromisingly supports the public strike by the workers. Botswana, despite being blessed with natural resources, remains a misery of resource curse. The resources are concentrated in the hands of few, whom by virtue of their positions have granted themselves the right to loot and steal as they wish. It is an open secret that workers have been more than just patient with the employer, being the government.  The workers have not received any salary increase for the past three years and the government's usual song has been recession.  This is in contrast to the fact that in reality some senior government officials live exorbitant lifestyles at the taxpayer's expense.  That Ramadeluka Seretse has been bought a P45 000 fridge is an open secret and also the case that over P300 000 was spent on Kitso Mokaila's furniture at the taxpayer's expense.
