The way forward to Kentse Rammidi

I congratulate Kentse Rammidi for joining the Botswana National Front (BNF). I very much want to welcome him and wish him an enjoyable membership of the BNF. I believe many BNF members look forward to working with him to build and strengthen the party.

I however, sincerely hope that he joined the BNF because he believed in its policies, programmes and political ideology. I hope he joined the BNF because of its pro-poor policies and its social democratic programmes. I hope he believes in the idea of a national democratic state, which the BNF has been advocating for many years.I hope that he did not join the BNF because his Kanye North constituency is a BNF stronghold and therefore he would be able to retain his seat in the 2014 general elections.

If at all he joined the BNF because he believes that as the incumbent Kanye North MP, he has a chance to represent it in the 2014 general elections, then his joining the BNF is not principled. It is not based on what the BNF stands for, but rather it is an opportunistic political move. He would be more concerned about his self-interest, not that he cares about what the BNF stands for.  This then becomes a dangerous and very bad political practice and culture, which we should discourage. The BNF should not encourage recruitment of new members to be informed and dictated by preservation of self-interest and political opportunism.
