Rethinking democracy conference - a rejoinder to Sandy Grant

I refer to Sandy Grant's Etcetera piece entitled 'Democracy and Very Short Memories.'in The Monitor of 7th November 2011.

The writer makes an assertion that the consensus at the recent 'Rethinking Democracy Conference' was that this country is less democratic today than it was 30 years ago.

He alludes to his own contribution in expanding Botswana democracy space when he entered electoral politics as an independent candidate, and rightly extols the role played by the independent media in the invasion and expansion of Botswana's democracy space since the 1980s.
