May Day: Time For Reflection

As the world celebrates Workers' Day tomorrow, up most in Botswana workers' mind will be the eight-week industrial strike they engaged in last year.

This will be a time for reflection for them. The strike, which was the first of its kind in the history of Botswana, paralysed the economy of this country as almost all the sectors were affected.

Recently, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Kenneth Matambo, indicated that the strike could have cost this country well over P270 million. This is a lot of money, considering the recession that many projects have been shelved due to lack of money.
