Freedom of Information Act welcome - Lute

The Press Council of Botswana supports the coming Freedom of Information Act.

Speaking to Mmegi in a telephone interview, Vice Chairperson of the Press Council and editor of the new weekly Weekend Post, Aubrey Lute said the act would be good, not just for journalists, but also for government and the ordinary person on the street.

"The act will help improve the principles, such as democracy, that we as a country are known for," Lute said.  He also said that journalists seek both positive and negative information that will help inform policy.  He said that the Act would affect everybody, not just media practitioners.
