Forget Tshekedi, it is Rakhudu we should focus on

No doubt the appointment of Tshekedi Khama as Minister at Environment, Wildlife and Tourism has taken the limelight due to the familial connections.

In so doing though, it has made another move-at Trade- seem inconsequential as all eyes and analysis are fixed on Tshekedi Khama. The expectations on Hon. Keletso Rakhudu, who now deputizes Hon. Dorcus Mkagato-Malesu at Trade and Industry, has been out of the limelight and thus the importance of his new role largely not mentioned. This though is a ministry that represents a future not based on the accident of ancient geological pressures and bursts. It is where a nation can make or break its development steps. Tell me, Professor Roman Grynberg, can a nation speak of industry and growing its economy on its basis if it cannot produce capital goods?
The apparent failures at industry are the reasons the entire economic diversification programme is failing. The state has not been a great investor outside our borders and we have terribly failed to produce goods that can produce other goods-capital goods. We are unable to even produce goods using goods that we import. This is the greatest failure of Botswana's miracle.

Apart from accidents of geography and geology we do not have much to talk about thus the challenge for Keletso Rakhudu. Can he do it? First, the question that must arise is whether Rakhudu is a dreamer or not. This is a ministry that needs more than a good administrator-because there is very little comparatively to administrate anyway. It is a Ministry that needs a redeemer who knows what it takes to turn around industry.
