BFTU responds to BOFEPUSU allegations and false claims

1. Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU) would like to respond to the article entitled BFTU gangs up with Govt at ILO conference - BOFEPUSU in the Mmegi edition of June 5, 2012. The article was based on a BOFEPUSU Press Release by Goretetse Kekgonegile. Our reply is confined to the allegations in the article, though we also intend to respond to the full statement in due course.

2. BFTU denies that it has "joined forces with the government to strike Botswana off the list of 'rogue' countries".
The impression created is that Botswana was "removed" or "blocked" from the priority list of the 24 worst violations due to BFTU-Govt connivance.

BFTU never discussed current violations with tripartite partners (Govt and BOCCIM) at home or in Geneva and is therefore not aware of government's position on the reported issues. Government has also not lobbied BFTU and does not need to since the matter is not properly before the conference.
