BCP transforms Ikageleng Phase One into a marginal winnable ward

The Ikageleng Phase One by-election finally took place on Saturday, February 26th, 2011 with two political parties and an independent candidate contesting.

Mmapula Matlhole of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) won the by-election after obtaining 333 votes translating into 49 percent of the popular vote, followed by Gabaikanngwe Madome representing the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) with 262 or 39 percent of the popular vote.

The independent candidate came a distant third with 78 votes which translate into 11 percent of the total number of people who voted. The by-election was held following the death of Councilor Letsweletse Dinale of the BDP.
