BCP detractors are deceitful

Of late the media has been swamped with a violent flow of malevolent and aggressive writings against the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and its leadership from functionaries who purport to be proponents of opposition cooperation.

The motivation of these aberrant acts is quite lucid. These however are abortive efforts aimed at blemishing the first-rate image of the BCP. Some cowards are so incensed with their extreme dislike for the BCP yet they are not man enough to face it. But we know them. The recent announcement of the unfortunate collapse of the opposition talks which emanated from disagreements in allocation of constituencies between parties seems to have placed them on their highway of deceitful machinations. But they are surely losers before they have even started. Theirs is a cacophony of senseless voices and frivolous attacks aimed at blemishing the BCP and its leadership. Their claim that the BCP is a club of relatives and tribalists is false.

BCP MPs are not related and come from different tribes, save for Dumelang Saleshando and his father Gilson Saleshando who were however not voted on tribal lines. Selebi-Phikwe where Gilson Saleshando was elected is predominantly a Bangwato and Babirwa region. The MP belongs to none of these tribes. Dumelang Saleshando represents Gaborone Central the heart of the capital city. Here he was voted by a cosmopolitan electorate. The two were voted by Batswana of different persuasions based on merit. To term this tribalism is surely the summit of foolishness. Batswana should not be denied quality representation on the basis of tribal relationship.
