Ukraine � the threshing floor between East and West

Trouble started when the government reneged on an agreement between Ukraine and the European Union to borrow money and revamp the slowing economy. This would have been one of the many steps that the country needs to take in the direction of joining the EU. Russia came to the rescue of the Ukrainian economy by pumping in billions of US dollars as loans and aid, far much more than what Europe would have. Russia deliberately moved in with such speed and swiftness in order to protect her personal interest in the region because the country’s sphere of influence in the geo-political spectrum is being threatened.
