The people of Kenya and particularly the residents of Nairobi have been going through the toughest two weeks of their lives. It all started on Saturday when a group of gunmen and supposedly a woman went into assault of the upmarket Westgate Mall. There has been a great amount of bloodletting in the four days of the siege. With all this carnage in place, Al Shabaab has gone public to take credit for the assault of the mall.

This terror organisation had earlier warned Kenya that they would strike and their reason for striking is to try and cause Kenya to pull out its troops from Somalia. In 2010, Al Shabaab struck in Uganda after similar warnings. While the people of Uganda were enjoying the World Cup, assailants placed a bomb that killed 76 people when it exploded.

When any country experiences such attacks, they will look up to Special Forces of their country for intervention. There are three things I would like to focus on in my analysis of the situation of the Kenya mall siege and these are; Why so many assailants were able to have a foothold in such a large public place; Address the number of casualties within the mall, and; Why the operation took so long to complete.
