COSBOTS Response To, PP

The Copyright Society of Botswana (COSBOTS) has read with great concern the article attributed to a certain Gilbert ‘PP’ Seagile, described therein as a “Local Promoter”.

Before delving into the disconcerting parts of the said article COSBOTS wishes to note that it welcomes discourse around its mandate and the execution thereof. The concept of collection of royalties (with which COSBOTS is concerned), while by no means a new phenomenon, is unfortunately only recently introduced in Botswana and hence the constant need to acquaint the public with what it entails, COSBOTS rights and corresponding obligations of users/ consumers of copyright works.
