BOMaid preventative healthcare campaign on non-communicable diseases

The increase in non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has been attributed to increasing urbanisation and changing lifestyles which include excessive consumption of unhealthy food and alcohol.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), NCDs account for 36 million deaths per year worldwide and about 31 percent of all deaths in Botswana.

It is in light of this emerging threat that the Botswana Medical Aid Society (BOMaid) has launched a preventative healthcare campaign on NCDs as an initiative towards arresting this evolving threat. NCDs, also known as chronic diseases, are diseases of long duration and generally slow progression.
