In January 2015, the African Union (AU) Assembly adopted Agenda 2063, a bold, well-thought out long-term vision and strategic framework for Africa’s growth, development and progressive integration.

It took into account and incorporated past and existing continental initiatives for growth and sustainable development and also national, regional and continental best practices. Agenda 2063 is firmly grounded on the AU Vision of “An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the international arena”.

The Vision of Africa espouses the key ingredients of the Post 2015 Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in September 2015.  The duty of the Chairperson of the AU Commission (AUC) as the CEO is of driving the process of Africa’s development and integration as articulated in Agenda 2063. In championing this process, the Chairperson will work collaboratively with Member States, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) along with all Citizens of Africa and other continental partners and beyond.
