The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Botswana will host its second annual MISA Golf Day on June 27 at the Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club from 10am.
Now in its second edition, the MISA Golf Day is a fundraising initiative to support the ongoing MISA Botswana activities. As a champion of media freedom, freedom of expression, and pluralistic independent journalism, MISA plays a vital role in strengthening democracy by promoting a robust media sector that acts as a watchdog and holds power to account. Proceeds from the event will go towards funding the organisation’s day-to-day operations including capacity-building for media professionals, collaborative advocacy with human rights defenders, and tackling pressing challenges such as the impact of information disorders (misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda), digital safety and cyber threats and ethical journalism as well as professional standards, amongst others.
Additionally, the golf day aims to promote health and wellness by contributing to the national fight against non-communicable diseases, which continue to pose serious public health risks in Botswana. Assistant Minister for State President, Maipelo Mophuting, alongside other distinguished guests and governing council, will grace the event led by MISA Botswana. Nearly 100 players are expected to participate, making it not just a day of sport but a prime opportunity for networking, collaboration, and celebrating shared values. Through the power of golf and the spirit of community, MISA Botswana invites all stakeholders and friends of the media to join in making this event a success.
