Is feminism "un-African"?

Feminism is seemingly taboo to Africa and is often negatively associated with the western world. However, the challenges women face globally, are similar. I recall a few years ago one local lecturer-cum-columnist scribed that feminists are "sexually frustrated".

I think he’d be delighted to meet me: a dick-whipped feminist; and the many sexually satisfied, level-headed, mothers, wives, and career women, etc who believe in what feminism stands for. Perhaps ‘Feminism’ conjures images of unattractive angry bra burning women who don’t shave or bath, can’t cook, dislike children, or are male-loathing lesbians. Women who hate men are misandrists.

Men who hate women are misogynists. Feminists are women (and men) who take gender issues seriously and address discrepancies between sexes, and don’t conform or adjust their sense of self to fulfill male expectation. The ideals transcend culture and race. Feminists loathe jerks: men who ill-treat women and perceive the female species as lesser creatures...
