Zim-Bots cordon fence in disrepair

FRANCISTOWN: Matsiloje village headman is livid that the controversial multi-million Pula cordon fence destroyed by herds of marauding elephants last month has not been repaired.

The cordon fence was erected along the border post with Zimbabwe to protect Botswana cattle from crossing to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) infested areas  in Zimbabwe. Botswana was at one stage criticised internationally for constructing a cordon fence similar to the Berlin Wall.  It was argued then that the fence was constructed to keep away illegal immigrants.

The headman, Moipolai Seleka says the jumbos destroyed the cordon fence starting from Lephaneng lands up to Dikgatlhong dam.  From Lephaneng to Dikgatlhong dam is a considerable distance.
