'Youth Development Fund survives on alcohol levy'

The Youth Development Fund under the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) is under budgeted and operates on an ad hoc basis depending mainly on the alcohol levy.

Permanent Secretary Ruth Maphorisa said this when briefing the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday.

PAC member Samson 'Guma' Moyo had asked Maphorisa to explain the operations of the fund. She said the fund had only P23 million in the recurrent budget though P100 million had been budgeted. She said they get funded from the alcohol levy quarterly, thereby operating on an ad-hoc basis as they get 45 percent of what has been collected in a certain quarter.
