Your Toyota Yaris could be your killer

Many Toyota Yaris drivers in Botswana could be risking their lives in that portable machine. It has been revealed this week that the June 2005-April 2007 models have a seatbelt defect that could result in a post-collision fire.

South African newspaper, The Times reported on Wednesday that 51,000 Toyota Yaris cars were recalled in the country while Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan has recalled 1.3million worldwide.  The Japanese recall includes Vitz, Belta and Ractis cars built from January 2005 to April 2008. The cars have defect either in the seatbelt or exhaust system.

Zaheera Essof, of Motor Centre Botswana, said yesterday that they are waiting for Toyota SA to compile a list of affected customers. She said that by Monday they will have clear answers as to whether their customers are affected and will communicate accordingly.  "We are expecting the list in a day's time," she said.
