Young mother escapes with a fine

FRANCISTOWN: Justice Dr Kholisane Solo has ordered a 25-year-old mother of Tutume village to pay P700 for attempting to kill her baby in 2006.

The convict, Chandida Galalia, was ordered to pay within a month, failing which she will be imprisoned for 60 days.

Lillian Mohwasa of Lillian Mohwasa Attorneys, and Kabelo Gaonyadiwe represented Galalia, while Careb Mbenda represented the state.  Court heard that Galalia threw her newborn baby into a pit latrine at her home in Tutume immediately after delivery.
