Warnings from the scientific community are becoming louder as an increasing body of science points to rising dangers from the ongoing build-up of human-related greenhouse gases produced mainly by the burning of fossil fuels and forests.

Worried by lack of legislation to effects of global warming, a 16-year-old lad of Gabane has founded the Global Warming Alleviation Society as a means of awakening Botswana from its slumber and making it join the international effort to combat the threat to human survival.

Oteng Moremi says despite a formal treaty pledging to limit warming and 20 years of negotiations aimed at putting the treaty into effect, Botswana has shown little appetite for the kind of controls required to accomplish that goal."We don't have any form of legislation on global warming in Botswana at the moment," he points out. "This on its own shows lack of seriousness on the part of our country to fight this monster." He is a Form Five student at Gaborone International School and driven by an urge to create a better world for his generation and posterity.
