'You and I go a long way,' Mogae tells BaLete

RAMOTSWA: President Festus Mogae continued to extol the democratic credentials of his administration and express faith in the continuity of the guiding principles of its policies by his successors here on Tuesday.

"I retire with unwavering confidence that basic policy will continue even if the opposition assumed power some day," he told BaLete gathered in Kgotla. "Such is the durability and near-permanence of what my administration has established".

Mogae, who retires at the end of March, is on a wing-footed farewell tour of the country.
"I have come to the end of the road in accordance with the Constitution," he said. "I retire to make way for my successor, namely (Vice President Ian) Khama, who will likewise retire after ten years".
