Wrangle over corpse rages

TSOLAMOSESE: The saga in which two families from Mhalapitsa in Tswapong and Kopong in Kweneng are wrangling over a corpse continued over the weekend when the husband was prevented from burying the deceased Goitseone Bathobakae on Saturday.

Mogoditshane Police Assistant Station Commander Mothusi Merementsi stopped the Kopong family, headed by the deceased's husband Augustine Bathobakae from proceeding with funeral arrangements in the village. He confirmed that he phoned the family which had planned to bury the woman on Saturday not to proceed until they had taken the other family on board.

Merementsi said he advised the two families to go back home and resolve the issue as stated in the court order. " This is a family matter that needs the two families to sit down and put their differences aside and find a way forward," he noted.
The matter also took a dramatic turn on Friday when the Mhalapitsa family learnt that Augustine had bypassed them and retrieved the corpse from Serowe Mortuary to a Tlokweng facility.
