Workshop identifies environment hiccups

Officially opening a workshop to address barriers to implementation and self-allocation of ecologically sensitive areas, illegal harvesting of sand and gravel across the Okavango Delta Ramsar Site, Tawana Land Board chairman Parret Dlodlo was optimistic that a clear enforcement strategy would be developed to rectify the situation.

"Institutions such as Tawana Land Board, Department of Mines, North West District Council (NWDC) Environmental Affairs Department and Water Affairs Department will be presenting on various provisions of their Acts which deal with issues of mining. It is my hope that law enforcement agencies represented here will be better equipped after this workshop to take proper legal action against those developers who contravene the various provisions of the relevant Acts."
