Workers return to Chedu Choga for May day

FRANCISTOWN: Members of the Botswana Federation of Public Sector Unions (BOFEPUSU) are going back to Chedu Choga, not only to celebrate the day of the workers, but also to reminisce about last year's eight-week strike.

The industrial action reportedly clipped P270 million from the country's economy. In Francistown the strike resulted in a clash between the workers and the police riot squad. "We have no qualms with no one. We are only going there to commemorate the day because as workers we must remember that we are the builders of the nation," said BOFEPUSU spokesperson in the city, Tiroyaone Xhabue.

Apparently, on the anniversary of the strike on April 18, there was a run-in with the police when Xhabue and other BOFEPUSU officials condemned the police for delaying with their permit to walk to the district commissioner's office to hand in a petition detailing their demands.
