Women's Affairs dept partners with police

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Women's Affairs Department's project division has started working with the police to assist them on issues of proper handling of victims of gender-based violence.

The department's official, Bakane Bakane said women have often complained about the unfair handling of gender related cases like rape by the police.

Addressing non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community based organisations (CBOs) forum in Selebi-Phikwe on Wednesday, Bakane indicated that women are dismayed that their cases are not accorded the privacy and urgency they deserve. "As such we believe that there should be separate offices for such cases and authorities should ensure that they are handled by female police officers."
