Women call for urgency in gender-based violence

Key findings by both the Department of Women's Affairs and Gender Links have shown that over two thirds of women in Botswana (67 percent) have experienced some form of gender violence in their lifetime. The findings are from a Gender-Based Violence Indicators Study-Botswana released last month.

The findings also state that 44 percent of men had admitted to perpetrating violence against women. The results are reported to be 'significantly higher than those reported in a study using similar methods' in the Gauteng Province in South Africa. Nearly one third of the women (29 percent) have experienced intimate partner violence in 12 months.
