Woman remanded for burning rival

FRANCISTOWN: A 29-year-old woman has been remanded in prison after losing a case of causing grievous bodily harm.

George is said to have ambushed and poured a mixture of boiling water and oil on the complainant, 27-year-old Ndiane Nkhutelang, during a fight over a boyfriend.
Hamoonga said that everything that the accused had told the court was a lie as far as she was concerned. The accuseds mother wailed outside court after the magistrate ruled that George be immediately taken into custody pending sentence.
George, who is visibly pregnant, seemed not to believe the verdict that the magistrate had just imposed on her. Hamoonga set sentence for June 11 as the accused had refused to be fingerprinted before.
State Prosecutor Inspector Boitshepo Kaisara told the court that the state had no way of telling whether the accused has previous convictions as she has refused to be fingerprinted, insisting she had done nothing wrong.
Hamoonga said that she would not buy the story that the attack was a mistake because if it were, the impact of the burning would not have been that visible.
The scars show that the complainant never saw it coming. If it were a mistake the scars would not be showing that much, she said. Hamoonga also said that the accused made a statement at the District Commissioners office.
Hamoonga further said that she tried to trick the court with the statement and most of the things she said were untrue except for the text messages the complainant sent.
Giving her evidence before court during trial, Nkhutelang told the court that she received an SMS from her boyfriends phone, Tose Bayani that said she should come to his house because he was missing her. She said that when she got to the house she found the accused holding a baby but she did not know her so she thought she was her boyfriends sister.
She added that suddenly the accused poured a sticky but hot liquid on her body.
It has been revealed during trial that the accused was the one who used Bayanis phone to send a text message to the complainant to lure her to the house, a charge she has denied.
The accused admitted before court that she was furious with the complainant for stealing her man, as they were school and church mates.
George will appear for mitigation and sentence on June 11. Attorney Lyndon Mothusi is representing her.
