Woman held in connection with infanticide

FRANCISTOWN: A 37-year-old woman is in police custody here for questioning in connection with the infanticide and dumping of a newly-born baby early this year.

"The woman worked in Molepolole but she came to Tati Siding earlier this year with the new-born baby, the Commander of Gerald Police Station, Motsholathebe Mothibi, told The Monitor in an interview.

"People became suspicious when they suddenly did not see the baby and alerted the police. When asked about the whereabouts of her baby, the woman confessed that she had murdered it and buried it in her yard in Molepolole. "Arrangements were made for the body to be exhumed. What complicated things was that nothing was found where the woman said she had buried the baby."
