Woman gets three years for abduction

A woman has been jailed for three years (wholly suspended) for kidnapping a seven-year-old boy in 2005.

A tense Mmabatho Sekgoma sighed in relief yesterday when the court suspended the sentence, though she was ordered to pay P5,000 within seven days failing which she will spend 12 months in jail. "Kidnapping by nature is a very serious offence and the convict should be handed down a stern punishment which should act as a deterrent to her," Moroka said.

He added that if Sekgoma commits the same crime before the suspended sentence ends, she will automatically serve the three years in prison. The convict landed in trouble for kidnapping the child of her married lover to get back at him.
