Woman dies in Tawana hit-and-run

A 39-year-old woman was killed in a hit and run accident in the Lemmenyane-Tawana turn-off on Friday night.

The police said even though investigations into the matter are ongoing, they suspect that the woman was killed while attempting to cross the road.

Deputy divisional traffic officer for South Central, senior superintendent Boiki Mojalemotho said the 27-year-old driver of a Subaru Sedan, who had initially escaped the accident scene, was arrested the following day and he is currently in police custody "helping with investigations".

“The driver fled the scene, but fortunately we found his vehicle’s plate number at the accident scene and on Saturday we managed to locate and arrest him. The driver is likely to face the offence of causing death by careless driving and might appear before the Broadhurst Magistrate's Court for arraignment on Monday (today),” Mojalemotho said.
