Windfall For Zim Medics In Botswana

Thousands of Zimbabwean medical workers currently having a tough time because of that country's ailing economy could soon be smiling all the way to the bank in Botswana, which is opening three big hospitals in Mahalapye, Molepolole, and Serowe.

Health Minister Sheila Tlou says the hospitals will be greatly under-staffed so Cabinet has already approved the proposal to recruit medical workers externally - and Zimbabwe, which boasts some of the well-groomed personnel - is the prime target. 

"It is also cheaper because they (Zimbabweans) will be closer to home. Hopefully they will find the Pula much attractive," the minister told Monitor in a telephone interview at the weekend.
