Widespread relief as Zim lifts duty on consumables

HARARE: More Zimbabweans are expected to flock to Botswana to buy basic commodities in the next three months after their government temporarily suspended duty on food imports this week.

The suspension, which is meant to ensure increased supplies of basic commodities currently in short supply in Zimbabwe, was effected on Monday and will remain in force for 90 days.

Notices posted this week at the Plumtree Border Post, the major entry point into Botswana through Ramokgwebana, say import duty has been suspended on cooking oil, margarine, rice, flour, salt, bath soap, laundry soap, toothpaste, petroleum jelly and washing powder.
