In a letter to him dated March 16th and signed by the party secretary for constitutional and legal affairs,  Kumbulani William, the party central committee says that it has unanimously endorsed a recommendation by the National Executive Committee "to expel you from the party forthwith." No enabling instrument is quoted. According to the letter, the action is being taken "in the wake of your gross violation of the party's code of conduct, one of the party documents that are held in the highest esteem adopted by the congress which congress you are part of."

The party further accuses Marobela of having entered into unauthorised cooperation talks with the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
