Why try me when I am innocent?

MOLEPOLOLE: A Takatokwane man charged with a single count of rape has vowed that he will not stand trial because he never committed any offence. Ketlhophegile Radikgwa is accused of raping his victim at Tsoto cattle post on March 17 this year. He has denied the charge.

I am not going to stand for any trial because I did not commit any offence, he told the court in Sekgalagadi.  The state has completed investigations and intends to call four witnesses for trial. Radikgwa was further remanded in custody.
In a separate rape case, Meshack Polaki of Takatokwane village will spend more time in jail because he could not secure sureties from his relatives.  Polaki is alleged to have committed the offence at Mosarwambe cattle post. A prosecuting officer told the court that he had approached Polakis relatives but none of them was willing to help. The accused pleaded with the court to change his bail conditions so he could report to the police as and when they wanted him.
Meanwhile, a Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldier was sentenced to two nights in jail for failing to comply with a court order.  The court heard that the soldier had been playing hide-and-seek with the police and was always failing to show up in court on set dates.  However, in defence the man said that the court appearance  coincided with his BDF operations.  He produced receipts to support his claims.  The man was facing a count of failing to pay monthly instalments for child maintenance.  He pleaded with the court not to put him behind bars as that could make him lose his job.  He further pleaded that he is taking care of his children, mother and that his job was hanging in the balance after he failed to go on operations with others because of the case.
Senior magistrate Matsaula James presided over the cases.
