The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairperson Samson Guma Moyo was disturbed and hurt by recent reports that he was undermining the authority and succession plan of President Ian Khama.

In a letter dated 2 December 2013 addressed to Khama, Moyo writes: "I have been disturbed and hurt by recent reports that I, and to a certain extent, some members of the Central Committee are undermining your government and your succession plans to the extent of involving foreign countries to assist in this regard. This to me is a very serious matter that cannot be left unattended as it has never happened in the history of this nation."

Moyo says that he holds Khama in high esteem and would never do anything to undermine him and his government. He writes that his primary reason is to help Khama.
