Who will settle the Maun water crisis?

MAUN: It is quite exciting to flash back to Mmegi headlines on persistent water shortages in Maun. Tuesday 17 May 2005: "Maun faces water shortage" and 14 October 2009: "Water shortage in Maun, hot political potato".

They say it all: water shortage in the tourism capital is a big social, economic and perhaps a political problem. It is a decade old problem that has now graduated from chronic to critical. As the village finds itself with two opposite problems - limited supply of fresh drinking water and nowhere to discharge its wastewater, the only certainty is, sooner or later, this ticking time bomb will hit a disaster hour mark. Signs are already there!

Water is a necessary resource vital for almost all aspects of life. It is essential for the population wellbeing and the sustenance of economic activities.
