We were never consulted on farm allocations - Kgosi Lorekang

MAUBELO: Kgosi Simon Setlhare Lorekang of Maubelo village in the Kgalagadi South District has denied that his tribe was consulted by the Kgalagadi Land board over the alleged illegal allocation of farms in Tsabong West near Maubelo and Logaganeng villages.

Speaking during an interview with Mmegi Lorekang said the last time he convened a kgotla meeting to engage the Land board was in the late 90s when the department had suggested a consultation with the community about proposed developments at the Tsabong farms. "I only learnt that there was a dispute over the alleged illegal allocation of farms from the concerned parties who included Richard White, William Matswiri and Edward Bojang, together with some members of the farming community of Logaganeng and Maubelo," he said. 

According to him, the trio suggested that Lorekang and a few other farmers should hold a meeting to share their concerns regarding the farm allocations hence they needed the communities' support and pledges in order to lodge their case with the relevant authorities.He said the three men explained the matter to them and only after deliberations did some community members say they wouldn't be able to pledge their support in monetary form.
