We need strong Parliament - Ntuane

Gaborone West South Member of Parliament (MP), Botsalo Ntuane, took over half an hour on Friday, urging fellow MPs to make sure Parliament gets its independence and status as an equal partner with the Executive and Judiciary.

He said that MPs should know that once inside Parliament, they are there to represent the interests of their constituents and not only their political parties, something close to what President Ian Khama and Vice President Mompati Merafhe are always preaching.

Ntuane was commenting on a motion by MP for Gaborone Central Dumelang Saleshando of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), imploring the House to give him the go-ahead to draft a private member's Bill requesting government to amend the Local Government Act and the Township Act to abolish the system of nominated councillors.
